Our Wellbeing Garden
With huge commitment from our fabulous garden volunteer Ian, our garden is looking lovely. It’s been a lot of hard work and we had hoped we would all be able to enjoy the benefits this summer. That may not happen, but luckily we can share these photos so you can enjoy some of the benefits from home.
Ian wrote a lovely piece about his personal experiences and benefits on his health from the garden for our annual report this year.
“Being diagnosed with stage 3 advanced prostate cancer a year ago turned my world upside down, things didn’t go as smoothly as they might have with 2 stays in hospital and numerous trips to A and E. I was unable to work and lost confidence in socialising. By chance, and to this day I can’t remember how it happened I volunteered to help revive the garden at The James Wigg practice. That was six months ago and it’s difficult to describe how much it has helped my sense of well- being, giving me a reason to leave the house, get some fresh air, meet new people and have a rewarding sense of purpose. I am also learning much more about gardening and planting in an urban, public space.”
Seeing the progress in the last 6 months is a testament to Ian and we can’t wait to get the volunteering group back up and running again!
