Freedom to Make

Freedom to Make was a creative project delivered by the Free Space Project, the in-house arts and community charity at Kentish Town Health Centre. This project was funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

This project was an 8-week knitting and textiles project run by artists Alejandra Picco and Beth Hopkins. Throughout this course participants will be learnt about tolerance, patience, change and growth. Participants were encouraged to practice being humble with every stitch, recognising that stitching and knitting involves undoing the path whilst keeping the same tension, rhythm and bravery to encourage change.

Each week participants learnt a new skill: crocheting, stitching, dying, applique etc. At the end of the project participants worked together to create a collaborative piece from the works created in sessions, that is be shown in an exhibition at Kentish Town Health Centre in 2020.
