Workshop: Posturing and Performative Practices in Photography

A workshop by Liliana Zaharia in collaboration with Irina Petreanu.

This interactive workshop will open up a dialogue about how emotions can be experienced in the body. Guest speaker psychotherapist Irina Petreanu will introduce the psychosomatic theory, and Liliana Zaharia will present as inspiration other photographers who have used their body in a performative manner to express emotions.

During the event we will comment upon the work of these artists, discuss the mind-body connection using as reference the work of different psychotherapists and engage in some practical exercises, such as:

  • Body scan protocol developed from mindfulness practice

  • Imagery meditation focusing on body tensions and ways to find relaxation.

Following this idea we will encourage participants to create a photographic self portrait with creative posturing that can be shared after the workshop.

To take part you’ll need to find a relaxing sitting position anywhere in their home. To create work any photographic equipment can be used: a phone camera, disposable camera or DSLR.

This workshop is open to patients at either the James Wigg or Queens Cresent practice or Camden residents. To book a place please email antonia@freespaceproject.org.
